History Of Cobbs Creek

Cobbs Creek is a west Philadelphia based community built in 1880. Cobbs creek is bound from north Market street and baltimore south. It is also referred as “Southside” because it’s south of market. Southside is used as a distinction for local street gangs. In 1985, the bombing of MOVE happened on 6221 Osage ave. The fire burned down 64 buildings! The bombing happening because the police obtained an arrest warrant for parole violation, terroristic threats, and possessing illegal firearms. This led to a standoff with the police and leaded up to the bombing on the row homes. Native americans called Cobbs creek “Karakung”. Sweden people used the creek as a water mill for fresh water. Cobbs creek ethnicity is mainly 60% black and 30% white and 10% other.
